In geographically isolated schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, digital learning has long depended on unstable signals or the availability of mobile data strong enough to support online platforms. In many island and upland communities, expanding fiber backhaul and tower-based infrastructure remains logistically complex, leaving public schools on the margins of the country’s digital transformation.

A nationwide satellite rollout is helping change that reality.

Data Lake Inc. has connected 100 remote public schools to high-speed satellite internet under the 100 Schools Project, implemented in collaboration with the Melco Resorts (Philippines) Foundation Corporation and the Department of Education (DepEd). The initiative highlights how satellite connectivity can complement existing infrastructure and reach communities where traditional broadband remains limited.

Deployment was carried out across multiple regions using standardized installation protocols and centralized monitoring systems to ensure stable performance. In one accelerated phase, 39 public schools were connected within 17 days, reflecting coordinated logistics across geographically diverse and hard-to-reach areas.

The impact has been measurable. Ninety-three percent of teachers reported satisfaction with the new connectivity, while 88 percent said they can now access online learning platforms without disruption. Overall school-wide connectivity satisfaction improved by 66 percent following installation.

For teachers, this means uninterrupted virtual classes and real-time participation in national training programs. For students, it means reliable access to research materials, digital assessments, and DepEd resources that were previously difficult to use due to unstable connections. In several communities, schools are beginning to function as informal digital hubs, extending connectivity benefits beyond the classroom.

Beyond the 100 Schools Project, Data Lake continues to support education-focused initiatives such as the Her Legacy ConnectED program led by Tootsy Angara under the Her Legacy Project Foundation. The ConnectED initiative provides both devices and reliable internet access to underserved communities, reinforcing the idea that connectivity must be paired with meaningful access to learning tools.

As the first authorized Starlink reseller and integrator in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, Data Lake has developed multi-island satellite deployment capability designed for geographically complex environments. Centralized monitoring ensures that installations remain stable and accountable long after activation.

As digital transformation in education gains momentum nationwide, the project demonstrates how satellite connectivity can serve as a practical solution for last-mile schools. For communities once limited by geography and signal strength, online learning is no longer occasional or uncertain. It has become part of the daily rhythm of classroom life.
